FSAI airs frustration at food safety law breaches
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has voiced frustration at what it called “repeated, similar and fundamental” breaches of food law. 92 enforcement orders were served on businesses for violating food safety legislation in 2023, up from the 77 reported in 2022. FSAI expressed disappointment at the increase and urged businesses to train staff appropriately and to ensure that premises are suitable for safe food production and storage.

AFDO introduces Food Safety Regulatory Professional Credentialing program
The Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) has introduced a Food Safety Regulatory Professional Credentialing program. The program is both for aspiring professionals and those already working in food safety regulation at various levels, including local, state, tribal, territorial and federal. By completing certifications through the AFDO program, individuals can demonstrate their proficiency in animal foods, manufactured foods and retail foods. Fees start at $245 per assessment.

FSSAI finds mismatch in licence by food operators serving airlines
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has found “discrepancies” in the licence endorsed by food business operators serving air passengers. The discrepancies were noticed following the FSSAI’s surveillance of the food supply chain. This happened after live worms were found in the refreshments offered by a major airline. This caused a furore in social media and elsewhere with people questioning the sanitisation process. Following the episode, the FSSAI had issued show-cause notice to the airline and sought an explanation for this.
